The Emergence of 5G

There has been increased speculation and interest about 5G in recent years and by the end of 2018 a breakthrough in 5G technology is expected to become a reality.

Recently, AT & T announced that it is going to introduce 5G to across global markets by the end of 2018. In the same way, Vernon is collaborating with Samsung to introduce fixed 5G to few cities within a few months of this year beginning with Sacramento, California.

Other telecom companies such as Sprint, T-Mobile are making plans of their own plans for introducing 5G to mobile by the end of 2020.

5G wireless service has been included in the infrastructure priority list by the White House in its national security report publication.

For the United States government, 5G is a priority with many parties that include service providers hoping to embrace this technology to outpace their competitors.

So, let us discuss the intricacies of 5G in brief as discussed herein below:

Defining 5G – What is It?

5G or fifth generation of cellular technology is the successor of 3G, 4G (where the term “G” stands for generation) with its predecessor 4G technology rolled out way back in 2011.

The technical specifications for 5G were standardized during the month of December– 2017. 5G is expected to outperform the current 4G and 4G LTE with upload and download speeds being 100 times more than 4G LTE.

5G is also expected to reduce the latency problems that existed in the current networks leading to more reliable mobile connectivity.

The Significance Of The Rise of 5G – Emergence Of New Technologies

Mobile Technologies

The faster mobile internet is expected to pave the way for new mobile innovations due to 5G that will enable technological leaps in terms of what is possible from a mobile perspective.

The introduction of 5G would result in higher augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences as well as other emerging technologies that cannot be supported on the current 4G technology.

Mobile manufacturing companies such as ZTE has already announced their plans to bring in 5G phones to the market at the end of 2018 or by early 2019.

5G is also expected to relive the current strain on 4G infrastructure which is at present unable to support the rising mobile connected population.

With 5G there are no more issues with interrupted communication during busy hours or during crowded days.

LoT and Autonomous Cars

The rollout of 5G will enable IoT or Internet of Things to be much faster and more efficient with a quick transfer of large volumes of data produced by connected devices.

Performance of such devices will not be compromised due to the speed of 5G with the better performance helping in driving greater adoption or collaboration of connected devices. 5G will also enable autonomous cars to become safer, efficient and reliable.

Home Internet

5G is expected to benefit home internet users first with faster internet speeds and low latency.

For these users shifting to 5G does not require a huge investment in new infrastructure in the form of installing fiber optic cables as 5G is truly wireless connecting internet via router receiving signals wirelessly from their service providers.

The Future Of 5G

5G is expected to arrive by the end of 2018 amidst speculations and hype in the tech community. Some of the advantages of 5G would be in the form of autonomous cars, connected devices (IoT) and improved mobile experiences.

Nevertheless, 5G would usher in a technological revolution in the form of new digital innovations that are yet to be discovered in the coming decades.
